Harmanpreet Kaur Age: Her Age At Major Career Moments

Born on March 8, 1989, in Moga, Punjab, Harmanpreet Kaur started playing international cricket at 20. Over the next 16 years, she collected milestones across formats, leagues, and tournaments. But what makes her story interesting is the timing of those milestones. Some came fast. Others made her wait. The Harmanpreet Kaur age at each key moment shows a career that did not follow a straight line.

Harmanpreet Kaur Age At Her Debut

Most people know she debuted young. But the exact date has a detail worth noticing.

Her ODI debut was on March 7, 2009, against Pakistan in the ICC Women’s World Cup. Her birthday is March 8. She played her first match for India one single day before turning 20. Technically, she was still 19.

Her T20I debut followed on June 11, 2009, against England, making her 20 years and 95 days old.

What is surprising is that despite debuting in both ODIs and T20Is at 20, her Test debut did not come until August 13, 2014 – five full years later, at age 25. Same player, same talent, but a five-year wait just to play a different format. That gap alone tells you something about how women’s cricket worked back then.

Age At Her Major Playing Milestones

At 27, she made a move that had never happened before in Indian women’s cricket. She signed with Sydney Thunder for the 2016-17 Women’s Big Bash League, becoming the first Indian woman cricketer to sign an overseas franchise contract. No Indian woman had done it before her.

The following year brought the performance that most fans still bring up first when her name is mentioned. In the 2017 World Cup semi-final against Australia, at 28, she scored 171 not out from 115 balls. To put that in context, no Indian woman had ever scored that many runs in a World Cup knock before. The innings single-handedly took India to the final.

Also at 28, she received the Arjuna Award. The award and the 171 came in the same year, which made 2017 probably the most loaded year of her playing career until that point.

Her Age When Captaincy Success Began

Harmanpreet became India’s permanent full-time captain in 2022, at 33, after Mithali Raj retired. The captaincy brought a different kind of responsibility – results now sat on her shoulders, not just performances.

Her first major test came at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, where she led India to a silver medal. Cricket was returning to the Commonwealth Games after years, so the spotlight was unusually high.

In 2023, at 34, she captained Mumbai Indians in the first-ever Women’s Premier League season. The WPL was brand new – no history, no previous champions. Mumbai Indians won it. That means Harmanpreet is permanently the captain who won the first WPL title ever – a record nobody can take away, regardless of what happens in future seasons.

Harmanpreet Kaur Age At World Cup Glory

All previous sections covered individual records, franchise firsts, and tournament medals. This one is different – it is about a team winning the biggest prize in women’s ODI cricket.

In 2025, at 36, Harmanpreet led India to the Women’s ODI World Cup title, beating South Africa in the final. India had never won this title before. Not in any previous edition. This was the first time.

What makes the age worth noting here is the full picture it creates. She debuted at 20, scored the knock of her career at 28, became full-time captain at 33, and won the World Cup at 36. Each milestone came at a different stage of her career, and none of them overlapped in meaning. The World Cup win was not a repeat of anything she had already done. It was the one achievement that was still missing.
