At first, HYROX India may look like a simple mix of running and gym exercises. But what happens when you have to keep switching between the two for the whole race? The upcoming Mumbai event is scheduled for September 17-20, 2026, at Hall 6, NESCO Center. Before signing up, it is worth knowing exactly what happens on the course, what each category involves, and which race rules can catch a first-time participant by surprise.
What Exactly Do You Have To Complete?
HYROX has a fixed race pattern. You run 1 km and then complete one workout station. You repeat this sequence eight times.
That gives an individual participant 8 km of running and eight workout stations in total.
The stations appear in this exact order:
1. 1,000 m SkiErg
You pull the SkiErg handles down repeatedly until you reach 1,000 metres.
2. 50 m Sled Push
You push a loaded sled for 50 metres. The load depends on your race division.
3. 50 m Sled Pull
You pull the sled with a rope for 50 metres until the full distance is covered.
4. 80 m Burpee Broad Jumps
You complete a burpee and then jump forward. You continue until you cover 80 metres.
5. 1,000 m RowErg
You row on an indoor rowing machine for 1,000 metres.
6. 200 m Farmers Carry
You walk 200 metres while carrying weights in your hands.
7. 100 m Sandbag Lunges
You carry a sandbag while performing lunges for 100 metres.
8. 100 Wall Balls
You complete 100 wall balls, using the required squat depth and throwing the ball to the target.
Once the last wall ball is completed, the workout stations are finished.

Can You Choose An Easier Format?
Not everyone has to do the complete individual race alone. HYROX offers different categories, and this changes how the work is handled.
Open Division
The Open Division uses the standard race weights. It is meant for general fitness participants and does not use the heavier Pro loads.
Pro Division
The Pro Division increases the load on several exercises. This includes heavier sleds, kettlebells, and wall balls.
Doubles
Two people race together. Both partners run together, while the workout stations can be divided between them according to the official rules.
Relay
A Relay team has four people. The team shares the running and workout sections between its members.
So, the biggest difference is not simply the name of the category. It is how much work one person has to handle and what weight they have to move. Check the official rules for your selected division before race day because the required loads and race details matter.
Where Does The Race Get Difficult?
The interesting part is that the stations do not ask for the same type of strength.
The Sled Push needs force from your legs and the ability to keep driving the sled forward.
The Burpee Broad Jumps repeatedly take you from standing to the floor and back up again. You also have to keep moving forward.
The Farmers Carry puts the focus on your grip while you walk with weight in both hands.
The Sandbag Lunges combine balance, leg work, and carrying a load at the same time.
The Wall Balls are different again because there are 100 repetitions. Even if one repetition feels manageable, doing the required movement again and again creates a separate challenge.
This is why a person who is strong in the gym may have a different experience from someone who is comfortable with long-distance running. HYROX combines several physical skills instead of testing only one.
Why Does Pacing Matter?
There are eight separate running sections, not one continuous 8 km run. Your pace therefore affects what you can do when you reach the next station.
For example, pushing hard during one 1 km run may leave you with less control when you immediately reach the next exercise. The same thing can happen later in the race when fatigue has built up.
Transitions also deserve attention. You have to finish one station, move into the next running section, and settle into your pace again.
A useful Hyrox workout can include these changes instead of training running and exercises only as separate activities. This lets you practise moving from one type of effort to another without wasting time deciding what to do next.
Can One Bad Rep Cost You Time?
Yes. HYROX does not count every movement automatically. Your repetitions must meet the required movement standards.
For Burpee Broad Jumps, the burpee includes the required chest-to-floor contact.
For Wall Balls, you need to reach the required squat depth before throwing the ball to the target.
For lunges, the movement requires the specified knee-to-floor position.
If a repetition does not meet the standard, it can be called a no-rep. Depending on the situation and applicable race rules, penalties may also affect your result.
This makes technique part of the competition, not just something to work on in the gym. During HYROX training, learning the official movement standards can help you understand exactly what counts before you reach the race floor.

So, Can Anyone Actually Finish A HYROX India Race?
The answer depends on what “anyone” means.
HYROX India is not limited to elite athletes, and there are categories that allow participants to share the workload. But an individual participant still has to complete the full 8 km and all eight stations alone.
That makes the individual race very different from Doubles or Relay. The category you choose decides the amount of work that stays with you.
Before entering, look at the actual race requirements rather than judging the event from videos or photos. Check the distance, station order, weights, movement standards, and rules for your division.
Then ask one practical question: Can I complete these exact tasks, in this exact order, without needing to stop for long periods?
That gives you a much clearer idea of whether you are ready for your first HYROX race and what your HYROX training should focus on next.
